Serena Cuevas and Serena Williams - Everyday Athletes Gatorade campaign

Congratulations to Serena Cuevas, a San Diego based dancer (founder of Deseo Dance Company) who is now costarring with number one tennis player Serena Williams in a new commercial campaign for Gatorade G2 sports drink, “Everyday Athletes”.

In 2007, Serena teamed up with San Diego’s premiere dance company, Majesty in Motion, and made a semifinals appearance in the team division of the World Salsa Championships.

The initial “Everyday Athlete” search for a co-star with Serena Williams started in November of 2008, and culminated in late February 2009.   We saw the final TV commercial this past Sunday evening (April 5th).

From the MissionG.com (Gatorade) — “The G2 Everyday Athlete search featured five finalists - all named Serena - who came from around the country to discuss their personal stories of how sports and exercise have helped them overcome a challenge and accomplish a personal goal.  A casting panel, consisting of Serena Williams and representatives from Shape magazine and Gatorade G2, selected Serena Cuevas, 23, from San Diego, Calif. based on Cuevas’ story of growing up with a passion to dance that was sidetracked by a horrific car accident.  She was told by the doctors she might never dance again.  With determination and passion, Cuevas recovered to compete in national and international salsa competitions, and established her own dance company - Deseo Dance Company.”
