For those in the U.S., there are a number of large salsa events for the Independence day weekend.
On the West Coast, the 7th annual Las Vegas Salsa Congress promoted by the Sin City Salseros is set from July 1-4th at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino. We were there in 2008 and had a fabulous time. Some of the artists scheduled to perform include Italy’s Tropical Gem and the Swing Guys, the Bronx’s Yamulee, and San Diego/Mexico’s Alma Latina.
In Central Florida, Orlando has two events this weekend.
The 5th annual Orlando Salsa Congress jumps off at the Hilton Orlando hotel from July 1-4th. Promoters Frank Fuentes (Born to Salsa), Michael Barbieri (Salsa Heat), and Jose Luis Gutierrez (Salsa Karibe) have scheduled artists such as Liz Lira and Cristian Oviedo, the Cobo Brothers, and Salsa y Control.Additionally, Edwin Rivera is hosting the 5th annual Children and Teen Salsa Congress at the Omni Hotel and Resort from July 2-5th. You will also be able to watch the congress live on the Internet.
In North New Jersey, the New Jersey Salsa Congress is bring Super Mario from the UK at the Mariott Newark Airport hotel (as well as NY at Webster Hall) from July 2-4th along with artists Marcus Nieves, Juan Calderon, the mambo king Eddie Torres, and Griselle Ponce.
