Salsambo Winter Showcase in Review

The Fuzion Creativa Dance Company, based in Philly and South Jersey, held their first Salsambo Winter Showcase in Westville, NJ this past Friday 2/6 to an enthusiastic and packed crowd. In fact, the main dance room was so full that Victor Colon announced for they would remove the tables for the next showcase later in 2009. Dancers came from all over Philly, South Jersey, Washington D.C., and Virginia (Earl Rush and the Stuck on Salsa crew) to support their friends and family. Philly’s finest Salsa DJs, DJ Jose Rodriguez and DJ La Clave played music into the AM. Follow this link for the Salsambo photo gallery.

The core Fuzion Creativa members include 2007 World Salsa Championships (team division) semi-finalist George Dennis (who’s also interviewed for Nuevotec numerous times), Nelson Miranda, Andrea Garrick and Victor Colon, who placed fifth at the 2006 World Salsa Championships in the cabaret division (one of six dancers featured in our Salsamentary documentary).

In addition to the Fuzion Creativa professional team (along with Andrea Garrick and Jenn Corea), other performances included their student team the Canaries, student Drexel University team Salsa Con Cache, student team from Joe Figueroa’s Living in Rhythm, Nelson Miranda and Alyssa Cabrera, and George and Sylvia.

South Jersey’s Arren Asuncion from the Salsa Dancing Addict Blog and Wil Shamlin from the South Jersey newspaper the Courier Post Online both wrote glowing reviews of the event. “This unique event, which kicks off its Salsa Night party with simultaneous lessons in salsa and mambo, is the brainchild of George Dennis, Victor Colon and Andrea Garrick. All three were among the performers who helped rock the house.”, wrote Wil Shamlin. From Arren’s blog — “Fuzion Creativa is coming out full force in the salsa community. Last year, George Dennis always said he hoped to see the Westville Square Xavier Hall Studio full of salseros, and last night he got his wish! With over 400 salseros, it was one hot steamy night of salsa dancing. ”
